Sometimes you may have a shared computer where you do not want users to be able to shutdown or restart.

There are several ways to remove shutdown, restart, sleep and hibernate button from start menu of a Windows computer.

How To Remove or hide shutdown button In Windows

  1. First, click on Start.
  2. Type run in search box and click on Run .
  3. Type gpedit.msc in Run box and hit enter.
  4. Open user configuration as shown above image. Then administrative templates > start Menu and taskbar . 
  5. Now on the right panel, find Remove and prevent access to the Shut Down, Restart, Sleep and Hibernate commands and double-click on it.
  6. Set it to Enabled then click Apply and Ok .
  7. In the start menu,the only options available are log off, switch user, and lock. 
  8. Then a restart may be required to complete the changes. 
Note that, a user can still log off the windows and click on the power button from there, which remains even after enabling the setting above.


How To remove log off button

  1. First, click on Start.
  2. Type run in search box and click on Run .
  3. Type gpedit.msc in Run box and hit enter.
  4. Open user configuration as shown above image. Then administrative templates > start Menu and taskbar .
  5. Find the Remove Logoff on start menu setting, Now double click on it and change it to Enabled
Note: If your computer restart for any reason Shutdown button still visible on login screen.

How To remove shutdown button from login screen

  1. First, click on Start.
  2. Type run in search box and click on Run .
  3. Type gpedit.msc in Run box and hit enter.
  4. Open Computer configuration as shown above image. Then Windows setting > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options .
  5. From right panel, Find the Shutdown: Allow the system to be shutdown without having to log on and change it to disabled.
